Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward to update its 1994 Master Plan
New plan will accommodate smart growth and redevelopment while
protecting the existing character of the historic neighborhood
ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall and the Atlanta
Department of Planning and Community Development are partnering with
residents, businesses, and stakeholders of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward to
update the 1994 Master Plan for the neighborhood.
The official kick-off meeting is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, at
City Hall East in the Sherry Lyons-Williams Auditorium, 675 Ponce de
Leon Avenue. The public is invited to participate in the process.
The community-based planning initiative will complement a concurrent
Atlanta Beltline study that looks at how the BeltLine will integrate
with the neighborhood’s transportation infrastructure, land-use, and
open space.
The Old Fourth Ward Master Plan team will take a wide view of the
neighborhood’s future, including innovative ways to use urban design and
urban planning to enhance public safety. The project will also
encourage a diverse mix of housing, employment, shopping, and open
space.
The updated plan will accommodate smart growth and redevelopment while
protecting the existing character of the District 2 neighborhood.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the Old Fourth Ward. We
need everyone with a stake in the neighborhood to attend the kick-off
meeting with sleeves rolled up and ready to work, ” said Hall.
The planning process will continue through the spring of 2008. For more
information, please call the Bureau of Planning at (404)330-6145.
