Dear friends:
In just 3 days, you and I and hundreds of residents and business owners from Atlantas Old Fourth Ward will be out on the streets and sidewalks creating a cleaner, safer neighborhood.
Our 5 neighborhood and business associations have been hard at work identifying the most challenging lots and blocks, so that we can get to work quickly this Sat morning Dec 1. KISS 104. 1 will be broadcasting live at Ralph McGill and Boulevard throughout the event, showcasing the incredible community spirit that makes the Old Fourth Ward such a great place to live.
To Participate:
Please join me on the sidewalks of Boulevard, just south of North Ave, at 8:30am for coffee and donuts. At 9am sharp, with Boulevard closed temporarily to traffic, we’ll parade down Boulevard to the staging areas for each association’s cleanup. Each association is making a special appeal for volunteers, work gloves, and small yard implements (esp sidewalk edgers, leaf blowers, rakes, and shovels). Please bring them along if you have them. At 1 pm, most of the staging areas will begin to close and we’ll provide you with a light lunch.
If you bring a digital camera with you, please send me your .jpgs of your favorite pix and we’ll post them for everyone to enjoy.
It’s not too late to sign up as a sponsor or to donate other items for the cleanup. See the attached sponsor letter and list and return by 12 noon Fri Nov 30.

Excellent. Congratulations to you and the fine citizens of the Old Fourth Ward. I love to see people coming together to take back their communities, fueled by hope, pride and the power of the human spirit. That’s an infinitely better direction to head in than the reverse. All we have on this little blue ball is each other. Hope is stronger than despair, love more powerful than hate and community spirit trumps fearful isolation. When folks come together, they often find people aren’t so very different after all. Human beings cherish, value and wish for many of the same things. When people have been down so long that they no longer hold to hope, dreams, or the possibility of change, they need someone to teach them how to breathe and remember to look up at the stars, again. Watch what happens to a child when someone pays attention to them, respects their opinions and contributions and encourages the development and expression of their individual gifts. I think we’ve all seen what takes place when that doesn’t occur. Taking care and pride in where we live and work is a good place to start. Taking care of one another and making an investment in knowing our neighbors is a beneficial place to wind up. So, I salute all of you for coming together to make a positive difference in your community and to initiate change for the mutual benefit of everyone. People will protect and cherish what they come to value and have a sense of pride and accomplishment in.
